This 90-minute history tour of Boulder takes place on a traveling hillbilly shacka converted school bus. Each tour features ghost, crime and historic vignettes, and departs from the Hotel Boulderado at the corner of 13th and Spruce streets. Irresistibly quaint, Hoverhome opens its doors for occasional tours of the 5,000-square-foot mansion, which is owned by the St. Vrain Historical Society. Tours of the 1914 English Tudor/Gothic Revival building are led by guides in period dress. LOUISVILLE HISTORICAL MUSEUM/TOURS Travel back in time to Louisville’s coal-mining past in this two-building museum. The Jacoe Store contains historic photographs and coal mining equipment, while the Tomeo House provides a glimpse into a 1900 coal miner’s way of life. NATIONAL CENTER FOR ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH (NCAR) PUBLIC TOURS At NCAR, find a flood of fun facts about atmospheric science, climate change, and the NCAR mesa and building. Check out a comprehensive view of Earth’s past, present and future climate, alongside NASA’s “A Tour of the Cryosphere” tribute to the International Polar Year. A photographic display of meteorological optics shows rainbows, lightning and dramatic light effects caused by different atmospheric conditions. Other highlights include a telescopic camera, working supercomputers, a gravity well, and demonstrations of lightning, a tornado, and fluid dynamics.
