ART & SCIENCE OF CREATIVITY

Boulder County Arts Alliance explores the nature, process and expression of creativity during monthly conversations. The last of this session, on the Culture of Creativity, takes place Dec. 11 from 6:30-9pm at Colorado Chautauqua Community House, 900 Baseline Road. 303-875-3633.

BUSINESS OF ARTS

Learn the nuts and bolts of the business side of art at monthly workshops held by Boulder County Arts Alliance. BOULDER GLOBAL WARMING EXPO, April 3

This 2nd annual Global Warming Expo takes place at the Boulder Theater on April 3. This year’s event highlights include a screening of the updated award-winning documentary "Kilowatt Ours," with filmmaker Jeff Barrie on hand at the event to answer questions, and a policy discussion by Tom Plant (director of the state's energy management office). There will be talks for preparedness and water conservation, as well as a question and answer panel including County Commissioner Will Toor, renowned ice scientist Ted Scambos from CU’s National Snow and Ice Data Center, and international consultant Hunter Lovins. Performances will include local sensation “face” and a piece by acclaimed contemporary dance choreographer Katie Elliott of 3rd Law Dance Theater. Local exhibitors will present solar installations, carbon makeovers, and other real solutions. Each participant receives a Global Warming Action Kit worth hundreds of dollars in discounts and free products such as compact fluorescent light bulbs. COLORADO ACADEMY OF ART

In April, CAA offers weekly community classes as well as multiday workshops in classical fine art, including sculpture, watercolor, oils and charcoal. Workshops feature renowned artists and instructors from across the world. CAA is located at 2897 Mapleton Ave. 303-442-0669.

CONFERENCE ON WORLD AFFAIRS, Annually in April

Originally a conference on international affairs, CWA now encompasses music, literature, environmental activism, science, journalism, visual arts, and much more during what the New York Times calls “a week-long extravaganza of discussion and debate.” Scheduled annually in April on the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus, this event features more than 200 nonacademic, cross-disciplinary panels, plenary sessions and performances. CU MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY LECTURE SERIES

The University of Colorado Museum of Natural History hosts year-round exhibits (see the Visual Arts section for a schedule), lectures and other activities. DAVINCI INSTITUTE

The DaVinci Institute hosts a wealth of events each month for businesspeople and entrepreneurs. From two monthly networking events to a series of “boot camps” and crash courses to inventor showcases, the institute strives to unite and advance talented thinkers and veterans of the business world. E-WOMEN NETWORKING, ongoing

LOUISVILLE ART ASSOCIATION

ROCKY MOUNTAIN STORYTELLER'S CONFERENCE, April 25-26

Learn the ancient oral art of storytelling, or just polish your techniques at this three-day event. Watch special guests perform showcase storytelling. Head to workshops on topics such as classroom storytelling, gathering oral histories, and using gestures; then practice during performance sessions. SHAMBHALA TRAINING

TOUR OF SATURN, April 28

Boulder planetary scientist Carolyn Porco, leader of the imaging team for NASA's Cassini mission to Saturn and science advisor for the forthcoming movie "Star Trek," will take the public on a magical mystery tour around the ringed planet in a free lecture sponsored by the American Astronomical Society Division on Dynamical Astronomy.
