Boulder County Hikes, Nature and Outdoor Events Held annually on a Saturday in April, this event is part of National Kite Month and celebrates the ways in which kites have helped changed history. Free activities are at Robby Ferrufino Park, 74th and Carr Drive in Arvada; check the website for the exact date. Boulder County Audubon Society BCAS hosts field trips, nature programs, bird counts and other events around the county. Pick a location, and on-site project leaders provide directions and all the supplies you’ll need for removing trash, planting flowers, pulling weeds, and more. This international event gathers tree-climbing enthusiasts, instructors and arborists to share experiences, stories and ideas. What did they do when they were snowed in for weeks at a time? Find out on Jan. 31 from 1-3pm as costumed guides give you a tour of the ranch and take you to the working demonstration in the blacksmith shop. WALTER ORR ROBERS WEATHER TRAIL This self-guided tour introduces you to the weather and climate surrounding NCAR’s Mesa Lab beside the Flatirons. Wild Earth Saturday, April 17 The Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery and the National Center for Atmospheric Research kick off Earth Week together, with a free, action-packed day for families. It features hands-on experiences with live raptors and other animals, hands-on experiments, exploration of NCAR’s Mesa Lab, and much more. April 17, 10am-4pm at NCAR, 1850 W. Table Mesa Drive. 303-258-0495. Colorado Division of Wildlife workshops teach the skills you need to see wildlife in the area. For those interested in snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, this one-day informational event on Jan. 16 from 10am-3pm will tell you all you need to know. Free activities include demonstrations, trials and children’s events.
