BOULDER JULY FOURTH CELEBRATION/RALPHIE'S INDEPENDENCE DAY BLAST Get to Folsom Field early on the evening of July 4 to secure a seat; then sit back and enjoy the entertainment while you wait for the fireworks. The gates open at 8pm with live kids’ music, a performance by the Skip-Its Jump Rope Team, a community sing-along at 8:30, the Boulder Phil at 9pm, and fireworks around 9:30. Broomfield’s great american picnic July 4th fun starts at 5:30pm in Broomfield, with inflatables and pony rides for the kids. Live music from the 17th Avenue All-Stars and the Nacho Men plays until the fireworks begin, about 9:15pm. BYO picnic or sample the food vendors’ wares. Following the July 4 Scar Top Mountain Run 12k and Spruce Canyon 5k (see listing under Races/Walks), participants and spectators stick around for CanyonFest, featuring old-fashioned Independence Day activities like a parade, booths, a pancake breakfast and live music. 11am-3pm at Coal Creek Canyon Community Center on Highway 72. The short trip up to Estes is worth it for a chance to see this stunning professional July 4 fireworks show reflected in the waters of Lake Estes. Grab front-row seats early on the lake shore and enjoy free music until the fireworks begin. The show starts about 9:30pm, weather permitting. 970-577-6400. Head to Thompson Park (Fourth and Bross) at noon on July 4 for a free, patriotic-themed concert by the Longmont Symphony Orchestra. When the sun goes down, this year’s fireworks show, sponsored by the Skyline Kiwanis Club, should be more spectacular than in recent years, thanks to donations from businesses and community members. Grab an up-close seat at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, Boston Ave. and Hover St., or secure a great view at a number of other sites in the city. 303-651-8437. Louisville Fourth of July Festival & Fireworks Louisville’s annual Picnic in the Park runs 9am-3pm on the Fourth and includes food and arts booths, live music, children’s activities (like inflatables and water sprayers), live music, and bocce and horseshoe tournaments. Community Park is at 955 Bella Vista Drive. Nighttime fireworks soar high over Coal Creek Golf Course. Nederland July Fourth PARADE & Fireworks This scenic mountain town celebrates a midsummer rite with a noon parade in downtown Nederland; a music festival from 1-7pm, and fireworks at dusk over Barker Reservoir. 303-258-3266, ext. 23. Town of Superior Fourth of July Festival Superior celebrates the Fourth in a big way, with a parade, pancake breakfast and live music. 8:30am-noon at Community Park (Coalton Road between Indiana and Rock Creek Parkway). 303-554-9005. Ongoing and Annual Events CONOR O'NEILL'S WORLD'S SHORTEST ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE AND FESTIVAL, annually in March Don your finest kilt and take in bagpipers, Irish dancers and Irish wolfhounds at this lively block-and-a-half-long parade that runs up 13th Street from Conor O’Neill’s to Spruce Street and back again. The festival (usually held the weekend before St. Patrick's day) follows the parade in the parking lot behind Conor O’Neill’s with music, games, beer and food. Call for details. 303-449-1922. SKI LOVELAND, annually on February 14 Renew your vows, or say “I do” for the first time, at 12,440 feet this Valentine’s Day. Loveland’s Feb. 14 Mountaintop Matrimony happens at noon at the top of Lift 2. A reception at Loveland Basin with music, food and spirits follows the ceremony. Participating couples who pre-register online receive a two-for-one lift-ticket special.
