Go Dancing in Boulder County, Colorado!
Dance a day (or two) away at Boulder recreation centers Jan. 3 and 4. The East Boulder Community Center (5660 Sioux Drive) and North Boulder Recreation Center (3170 Broadway) offer a wide range of sampler classes these two daysfrom ballet to hip-hop to tapso you can find out which dance is right for you. ARGENTINE TANGO/DANCE OF THE HEART Dance of the Heart specializes in Argentine tango: social dance parties, performances, private lessons, group classes, and eventrips to other tango communities in the U.S. and abroad. This nonprofit organization sponsors energetic old-time community dances the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at Avalon Ballroom, 6185 Arapahoe Ave. Dances are primarily contradances, plus some circle dances and waltzes, and are accompanied by live music. BOULDER INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCERS Kick up your heels with recreational folk dancing from around the world. Lessons from 7:30-8:30 pm are followed by open dancing until 11 pm. BIFD meets at Pearl Street Studio, 2126 Pearl St. DANCE HOME AT THE SOLSTICE INSTITUTE Dance Home is a barefoot boogie, open to people from all walks of life. Hosted by The Solstice Institute most Thursday nights, this spirited event features a wide variety of music, from funky and tribal to groovy and flowing. Held at the Solstice Institute, 302 Pearl St., in a nonalcoholic, family-friendly atmosphere. Dances run from 8-11:30pm, with a substantial discount if you dance for the last hour only. 303-499-9357. LYONS OLD-TIME COMMUNITY DANCES Old-time stringbands and callers lead circles, squares and reels at these local dances. Beginning clogging workshops are offered an hour before each dance. LYONS OLD-TIME HALLOWEEN DANCE, Oct. 25 Looking for a rousing evening of Halloween fun? Join the old-time string band Poultry in Motion and caller Chris Kermiet as they lead you through circles, squares and reels on Oct. 25, 7-10pm at Odd Fellows Hall, just north of 4th and Main streets in Lyons. 303-823-0816. Learn folk dances from many cultures Tuesday evenings until Sept. 9. These outdoor events feature guest artists from the Ukraine, Israeli dancers, Scandinavian dancers and more. RED ROCK RAMBLERS SATURDAY SQUARE DANCES For 48 years, the best callers and cuers have visited the small foothills town of Lyons to have a good time Saturday nights from June-September. RHYTHMIC RITES SACRED DANCE JOURNEY On the second Sunday of each month, Immersive Arts Studio hosts Rhythmic Rites, a sacred dance journey for all ages.
