BAOBAO FEST, March 2-6 THe 7th annual BaoBao Fest, presented by former members of the world-renowned Ghana Dance Ensemble, honors the West African tradition of gathering until the baobab tree to celebrate African culture. The festival March 2-6 features dancing, drumming, storytelling and much more, at Boulder and Denver locations to be announced. This award-winning group comes from backgrounds as diverse as jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, African dance and classical ballet and is known for its innovative choreography combined with acrobatic lifts. BOULDER COMMUNITY DANCES AT THE AVALON The Avalon Ballroom, 6185 Arapahoe Ave., hosts social dances all year long on its large, cushioned dance floor, and all events include a lesson. You can tango every Monday night at 8pm and on alternate Sundays; Wednesday Waltz Etcetera is on second and fourth Wednesdays at 7pm; and the Boulder Salsa Social begins at 6:30pm every Thursday. Community Contra Dancing is a variety of New England and American folk dances with a few waltzes, hambos, polkas and square dances thrown in. Davis Contemporary Dance Company The 10-member Davis Contemporary Dance Company strives to present “dance that feeds your soul.” Check the website for updates on the company’s fall concert in the Denver area.
