AERIAL DANCE FESTIVAL

People from all walks of life can experience the joy of dancing in the air during this annual summer festival, hosted by Boulder’s Frequent Flyers Productions. Classes in flying trapeze, bungee dancing, aerial fabric and more, plus performances by local, national and international aerial artists. ARGENTINE TANGO/DANCE OF THE HEART

Dance of the Heart specializes in Argentine tango: social dance parties, performances, private lessons, group classes, and eventrips to other tango communities in the U.S. and abroad. BOULDER COMMUNITY DANCE AT THE AVALON BALLROOM

Practice your moves and learn a new one at social dances all year long. American contradances on the first and third Fridays of the month (303-592-3972; www.cfootmad.org). BOULDER INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCERS

Kick up your heels with recreational folk dancing from around the world. Lessons from 7:30-8:30 pm are followed by open dancing until 11 pm. BOULDER JAZZ DANCE WORKSHOP, annually in summer

Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop draws students from all over the country to its summer dance intensive. The curriculum includes jazz dance, modern dance, hip-hop, performance classes, seminars and a multimedia presentation on jazz dance history focusing on legend Jack Cole. BOULDER PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Dance studios at city recreation centers offer classes for all ages in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, social dance, dance fitness and performance. Classes are at East Boulder Community Center, 5660 Sioux Drive, South Boulder Recreation Center, 1360 Gillaspie Drive, and North Boulder Recreation Center, 3170 Broadway. BREAKTHROUGH ARTS

CLEO PARKER ROBINSON DANCE

This multicultural Denver performing-arts institution offers year-round performances as well as classes geared toward underserved communities and children. The theater is located at the historic Shorter AME Church in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood. 303-295-1759; www.cleoparkerdance.org.

DAIRY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The Dairy Center, at 2590 Walnut St., is a 40,000-square-foot multidisciplinary arts center where 16 of Boulder’s liveliest arts organizations hold classes, exhibitions and performances. DANCE BRIDGE

“So you think you can dance?” Well during April, everyone can in Boulder! World Dance Day was first celebrated on April 29, 1982, to heighten the awareness of dance and its contributions to our culture. Here in Boulder, the dance community decided five years ago to take this idea a couple steps further by celebrating with an entire month of dance events. Local dance companies and venues, artists, teachers and schools will offer classes, workshops, performances, films, lectures, story hours, displays and dance parties for the entire community. GYPSY FLAMENCO DANCE

LYONS OLD-TIME COMMUNITY DANCES

Old-time stringbands and callers lead circles, squares and reels at these local dances. Beginning clogging workshops are offered an hour before each dance. Check the website for upcoming dances at Odd Fellows Hall, just north of 4th and Main streets in Lyons. 303-823-0816; www.musicinlyons.com.

MOTION UNDERGROUND

POSTOLEY DANCE ENSEMBLE

Learn folk dances from many cultures Tues evenings annually in the summer. These outdoor events feature guests artists from the Ukraine, Israeli dancers, Scandinavian dancers and more. RED ROCK RAMBLERS SATURDAY SQUARE DANCES

For 48 years, the best callers and cuers have visited the small foothills town of Lyons to have a good time Saturday nights from June-September. Come to Lyons Elementary School Gym, Fourth and Stickney streets, for rounds at 7:45 pm; squares start at 8:15 pm. 303-823-6692; www.lyons-colorado.com.

SALSA DANCING IN BOULDER,
