Love to read? Join the (book) club. More than 10 unique and diverse book groups meet at the library: from Arabic, Japanese and Spanish literature to mysticism to physics. COLORADO COWBOY POETRY GATHERING, annually in January Gather round and listen to the world’s best rhymers, yarn-spinners, sagebrush side-ticklers, yodelers and cowboy singers. This annual program includes poetry, music and fun. A new concert format means longer shows by favorite headliners, and the new Saturday matinee was added especially for families. LAFAYETTE COLORADO PUBLIC LIBRARY The Lafayette library offers adult classes, teen programming, free afternoon teen ArtsFridays classes, Cuentacuentos Spanish storytimes and more. 775 West Baseline Road, 303-665-5200. After almost 30 years in business, this shop is one of last remaining all-volunteer, collective-run radical bookstores in the country. It offers author readings, films, book and magazine discussion groups, and collaborations with performance groups like Vox Feminista. LONGMONT COLORADO PUBLIC LIBRARY Longmont’s library offers book discussion groups, storytimes for kids, bags of books for private book groups, free entertainment programs, and more. MileHiCon 41, annually in fall MileHiCon is the largest science-fiction literary convention in the Rocky Mountain Region, with more than 80 authors and speakers participating in panels and programs on everything related to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Tom Peterspoet, Kerouac School alum and owner of the Beat Book Shop next doorhas hosted these open poetry readings for years.
