Races and Walks in Boulder County, Colorad

Winter and spring are the quietest seasons on the race/walk circuit, but there are still plenty of events to keep Boulder County residents moving. Many of these races sell out early, so be sure to register far in advance.

  • Dec. 10: Fit 4 Colorado Community Walk. This 4,000-step “heART Walk” guides participants through Old Town Lafayette and the city’s collection of public art pieces. No registration required; begins at 9am at the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center, 111 W. Baseline Road. www.cityoflafayette.com.

  • Dec. 3, Jan. 21, Feb. 25: Chilly Cheeks Winter Duathlon Series. Each of the three events has a different format. At Denver’s Cherry Creek State Park. www.racingunderground.com

  • Dec. 17: Jingle Bell Run. Grab your jingling Santa hat (included with registration) and run or walk the family-friendly 5k course that has hot chocolate, caroling and sledding waiting at the end. Dogs and strollers welcome. 10am. www.humanmovement.me.

  • Dec. 31: 27th Annual Resolution 5k. Begins at 5pm at Denver’s Washington Park, at the southeast end near S. Franklin Street and Mississippi Avenue. www.resolution5k.com.

  • Jan. 14: Quicker Quaker 5k Walk/Run. Held annually in conjunction with the Lafayette Quaker Oatmeal Festival. 9:30am. www.lafayettecolorado.com.

  • Jan. 29: 33rd Annual Frost Giant 5k & 10k. High-altitude treks down MacGregor Avenue in Estes Park wind through historic pastures. www.estesvalleyrecreation.com.

  • April 21: Mud Hen 5k. Longmont’s annual spring 5k takes runners and walkers of all ages around scenic Lake McIntosh. www.ci.longmont.co.us.

  • May 28: Bolder Boulder. Yes, it’s a huge race, but it’s separated into 80-90 waves so everyone can run (or walk) at their own pace. Hang out in Folsom Field after you’ve finished the 10k course to watch the end of the wheelchair and elite races and enjoy the Memorial Day festivities. www.bolderboulder.com.
