When you envision a “ladies night,” perhaps the first thing that comes to mind is a sleazy bar offering no cover charge and super-cheap watered-down cocktails. The 11th Annual Lunafest is nothing like that. Instead, it is a night of enlightening, inspiring film entertainment by, for and about women. Lunafest comes to the Boulder Theater at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11.
This traveling fundraising film fest features nine short films (ranging in length from 3-18 minutes) and benefits the Breast Cancer Fund and the Greenhouse Scholars.
This year’s emcee is Olivia Ahnemann, co-producer of the powerful and unforgettable documentary “The Cove,” and more recently involved in helping produce “The Heist.”
The short films tackle female-centric issues from aging to motherhood to breaking barriers.
“Lunafest is a special event for us to bring to the community, because there is nothing like this in Boulder that truly celebrates women and film,” says Boulder Lunafest host Colleen Cooke.
Last year Lunafest traveled to more than 150 cities and raised more than $1.5 million dollars for women’s non profit organizations. Lunafest is hosted by Clif Bar & Co., the maker of Luna bars.
Tickets are $17.50 for general audiences and $12.50 for students. The Boulder Theater is located at 2032 14th St. Purchase at the door or in advance at http://www.bouldertheater.com/event/lunafest-short-films-by-for-about-women
