FREE catered opening reception for "the invisible connectedness of things" and Artist's talk with Kim Abeles: "The Invisible Made Visible"
In the BioLounge at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History
Talk and Exhibition Overview:
Abeles' talk includes images, a discussion of the exhibit and examples of her work which has been exhibited in 22 countries. The talk will be introduced by Spark: UCAR Science Education Director Raj Pandya, Manhattan Middle School Principal Robbyn Fernandez, and Atmospheric Scientist Richard Wagner.
This art/science/transportation exhibit explores the impacts that our transportation choices have on Boulder's air quality. It includes a stunning 16-foot video wall with digital imagery of Boulder's lichens watching museum visitors. It also includes photography, puzzles and "smog collector" plates; a process Abeles invented. The plates were created by placing stencils on plates, which were then exposed to polluted air. When the stencil is removed the images are revealed in smog. While Abeles created some of the plates, many were created by Manhattan Middle School students.
