Film Screening: Play Again
Friday, February 10, 2012
5 p.m. at Shepherd Valley Waldorf School, RSVP
Shepherd Valley Waldorf School (SVWS) will host a film screening of Play Again, a documentary that follows six teenagers who, like the “average American child,” spend five to fifteen hours a day behind screens. The film unplugs these teens and takes them on their first wilderness adventure – no electricity, no cell phone coverage, no virtual reality. Through the voices of children and leading experts including journalist Richard Louv (author of Last Child in the Woods), the film investigates the consequences of a childhood removed from nature and encourages action for a sustainable future. http://www.groundproductions.com
The event will conclude with a group discussion focusing on parents sharing their challenges and successes in creating a healthy environment for their children.
The film screening is a free event, open to the public, for ages 18 and over. Light refreshments will be served, and the film will be followed by a group discussion for all who wish to participate. Prospective attendees may contact Shepherd Valley Waldorf School’s Enrollment and Outreach Coordinator Melanie Reiser at 303-652-0130 to RSVP.
Celebrating its 19th year, the Shepherd Valley Waldorf School is part of the international Waldorf School movement of more than 1,000 schools, which is one of the fastest-growing educational models in the world. Located at 6500 W. Dry Creek Parkway in Niwot, serving the greater Boulder area, the school‘s interdisciplinary curriculum emphasizes mastery of analytical and critical thinking, self-discipline, initiative, and reverence for the beauty and wonder of our world.
