Monthly Friday-night receptions and artwalks are a tradition at galleries and in art districts throughout Boulder County. In addition to opening receptions at galleries, you’ll often find live entertainment, food and drink, and other businesses with extended hours.

  • Downtown Boulder: First Fridays, 6-8pm on and around the Pearl Street Mall
  • NoBo Nite Out: First Fridays, 6-9pm in the NoBo Art District, along North Broadway between Iris Avenue and Lee Hill Road
  • Lafayette: Third Fridays, 6-9:30pm at more than a dozen shops and restaurants along Public Road
  • Longmont: Second Fridays, 6-9pm along Main Street between Third and Sixth avenues
  • Niwot: First Fridays, 5-8pm; participating locations in Niwot change each month

ArtWalk Longmont
May 18: ArtWalk is a free evening of art exhibitions, music, live theater and dance, and children’s activities on Longmont’s Main Street between Third and Sixth avenues. View the work of featured artists at 20 downtown businesses, and stroll the conveniently blocked-off streets from 6:30-9pm. 

Boulder Art Association
Rotating works by BAA members are on display year-round at businesses throughout the county; check the website for schedule. The association also holds monthly meetings. 303-444-9922.

Boulder Potters’ Guild Spring Sale
May 3-6: Annual spring members’ show and sale features a wide variety of functional, decorative and sculptural works in clay. The event also includes daily drawings and demonstrations. At the Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road in Longmont.

Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale
Jan. 7-22: Held in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show, this annual event showcases Western-themed works in sculpture, drawing, painting, printmaking and photography. At the National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St. in Denver. 303-297-1166.

Denver National Quilt Festival VII
May 3-6: Annual juried competition draws textile artists from all over the country and also includes workshops, lectures and a Merchants Mall. At the Denver Merchandise Mart, 451 E. 58th Ave.

East Boulder County Artists’ Studio Tour
May 5-6 & 12-13: To give visitors the chance to see more artists at work, this annual tour is held on two consecutive weekends. Self-guided tour spans Longmont, Lafayette, Louisville and Superior. Find map locations on EBCA’s website. EBCA is also holding a holiday sale through Dec. 31 at FlatIron Crossing in Broomfield.

Estes Park Art Events
The month of May brings three annual art events to the town of Estes Park. For more information on each, check or call the number listed.

Judaica Show
Through Jan. 15: Annual show presents the finest in festival ware, and a gallery celebrating Jewish traditions old and new. At the Boulder Arts and Crafts Gallery, 1421 Pearl St. 303-443-3683.

Longmont Art in Public Places Ongoing Tours
The Longmont Bike Map (available online or at the Longmont Museum & Cultural Center, 400 Quail Road) shows the locations of all the works in the collection, so you can design your own walking, biking or driving tour.

Lyons Outdoor Market
Saturdays beginning mid-May: This popular hybrid of a fine-arts fair and a farmers’ market is held on Saturdays from 10am-3pm at 446 Main St. in Lyons. It also includes children’s activities and live music
