Animal Adventures with Safari Sally
Jan. 21: Bring a little wildlife into your life with Safari Sally, who has a Madagascar hissing cockroach, a scorpion, a lizard and a snake. This fascinating science program geared towards ages 3-12 and their families lets you get up close with these creatures and more. 11am at George Reynolds Branch Library; 3pm at Meadows Branch Library. Butterfly Pavilion
“Tropical Odyssey,” the Butterfly Pavilion’s premier exhibit, is back by popular demand. It’s an interactive, bilingual adventure with games, active play elements, interactive learning and a larger-than-life playscape. Colorado Reptile Humane Society
CoRHS, 13941 Elmore Road in Longmont, works to improve the lives of reptiles and amphibians in the wild and in captivity, through education and action. Open by appointment. 303-776-2070.
Denver Zoo

Humane Society of Boulder Valley
The shelter cares for more than 9,000 animals each year, and nearly 90 percent are successfully adopted or reunited with their families. The society also offers specialized classes for dogs, trains volunteers to work with the animals, runs camps for kids, and arranges unique birthday parties. 2323 55th St. 303-442-4030.
Longmont Humane Society

Medicine Horse Program
MHP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for adolescents, families and adults through equine-assisted therapy sessions that focus on healing. It offers camps, lessons, workshops and volunteer opportunities at 8778 Arapahoe Road. 720-406-7630.
National Western Stock Show, Rodeo & Horse Show
Jan. 7-22: Huge, 16-day show opens with three premiere champion rodeo events and continues with other rodeo contests, horse shows, livestock judging, super dogs, a Wild West variety show, a Western art exhibit, a trade show, and dozens of other items on the packed schedule. At the National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St. in Denver.
The Wild Animal Sanctuary
Lions, tigers, bears, wolves and other large carnivores roam freely on the wide-open acreage of The Wild Animal Sanctuary, east of Boulder near Hudson, off Highway 52. Elevated catwalks and observation platforms let visitors in on the action. Open 9am-4pm until May, then open until sunset in the summer. 303-536-0118.
